<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a substituted pyridine herbicide useful for controlling undesirable weed species by its application to leaves and seeds of the undesirable weed species. SOLUTION: This substituted pyridine herbicide comprises a compound of formula I (A and B are each a halogen, nitro, cyano, amino a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C haloalkyl, etc.; X and Y are each O or S; R is a 1-6 alkyl, 1-6C haloalkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, etc.; (m) is O, 1 or 2; (n) is 0 or 1), for example, 2-[(2-chloro-4 pyridyl)oxy]-6-[(p-fluorophenoxy)methyllpyridine. The compound of formula I is prepared using a 2-cyano-6-halopyridine as the starting material. A herbicide which contain an effective herbicidal quantity of this compound is preferably applied to soil or water that contains leaves, seeds or other reproductive organs of undesirable plants.</p> |
