PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and exactly discriminate a disk cartridge from others having different recording capacity and specifications by providing specification discriminating parts on side surfaces of a cartridge main body in parallel to the direction of inserting the cartridge. SOLUTION: A lower half 5 is provided with circular shaped holes from a 1st recording capacity discriminating hole 28A to a 4th recording capacity discriminating hole 28D positioned on the forward surface side from a straight line connected with the centers of positioning holes 27A and 27B respectively. This disk cartridge has three modes including a state of closing either of the recording capacity discriminatng holes 28A and 28B and a state of closing the recording capacity discriminating holes 28A and 28B respectively. Then, since this disk cartridge has two modes of the presence and the absence of the hole with regard to the two of the 3rd and 4th recording capacity discriminating holes 28C and 28D, an open and close pattern can be settled in 2<2> =4 ways of modes in this case. Consequently, the open and close pattern can eventually be settled in 3×4=12 ways of modes by this disk cartridge.
