PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a (Fea Co1-a )100-x-y Ptx My alloy, vertically magnetized film having a large saturated magnetization and a high coercive force and its manufacture and a vertical magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: On a single crystal substrate having a temperature of 100-1,000 deg.C, a seed layer of a thickness 100Åor less is made out of a single metal or alloy, and a buffer layer of a thickness 5μm or thinner is made out of face-centered cubic metal at a substrate temperature 100-1,000 deg.C, and on the buffer layer an alloy layer represented by a general formula (Fea Co1-a )100-x-y Ptx My , and containing a small amount of impurities is laminated at a substrate temperature 400-700 deg.C, and it has a saturation magnetization of 8kG or more, and a coercive force of 500Oe or more. Moreover, the subcomponent M of the alloy layer is one or two or more kinds of elements selected from Be etc., and its composition ratio (a) and atomic percentages x, y satisfy 0<=a<=0.4, 30<=x<=55, and 0<=y<=15.
