Production of enantiomeric 1-azabicyclo(2.2.2)octanes (I)with concommitant formation of quinoline derivatives (II) comprise treatment of a quina alkaloid (III) with a complex metal hydride with simultaneous oxidation with air in an ether or tetrahydrofuran. Also claimed are compounds of formula (IA) and (IB). R = H, 1-12C alkoxycarbonyl, 1-12C alkyl, alkylated silyl e.g. tert.butyldimethylsilyl or substituted phenyl or benzyl. |
