The caisson connecting a road tanker to its suspension is constituted from an assembly of boiler making steel. This assembly comprises beams (10) connected by transverse cradles (20) fitted on ribs of the tank. The assembly is welded directly onto the tank. There are two lateral folded sheet steel beams with an upwards opening transverse U section. The internal vertical wall (11) of these beams is of less height than the external vertical wall (12) and has cut-outs (13) for the passage of the ends of the transverse cradles. The folded steel sheet cradles have a transverse U-section whose spacing corresponds to the thickness of the tank ribs. The ends of the cradles abut the internal face of the beams' external vertical walls. The height of the cradles decreases from their ends to their central part in order to fit the rib profile.
