The top surface of the heat exchanger is maintained damp in order to condense the vapours. The surface is wetted with a flowing fluid film by a device (6,8) which encompassed a device (9) for recirculating the condensate. The device for providing the fluid film has an irrigation groove (10) built in the top edge of the heat exchanger. The groove is positively formed with the heat exchanger.
