PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibration at a low pulse frequency by employing a stepping motor and a reduction gear for a carrying mechanism to carry a lighting section of the image reader or a read original in the subscanning direction. SOLUTION: When halogen lamps 54a, 54b in a light source unit 48 of a lighting section 40 are energized, a stepping motor 76 of a carrying mechanism 42 is driven. When a drive shaft 76a is driven, a drive shaft 96 whose number of revolutions is reduced via a reduction gear 78 is driven. Both ends 98a, 98b, 100a, 100b of 1st and 2nd cords 98, 100 wound on the drive shaft 96 are moved in different directions. A reflecting mirror unit 50 is carried in the subscanning direction by a moving distance a half of that of a light source unit 48. Although the vibration of the stepping motor 76 receiving a low pulse frequency is considerably, since the gear reducer 78 is employed, the vibration is reduced and the delivery of vibration to the lighting section 40 is prevented. |
