Arrangement for correcting gaps in flow of flat letters

The arrangement has a device which measures the gaps between successive letters. The letters are transported held between two continuous, elastic belts (10,11) passing over fixed direction changing rollers (1,2,6,7), at least one of which is driven. The transport length is varied by deflecting at least one guide roller (8) arranged between the direction changing rollers. The deflection is approximately perpendicular to the transport direction between the direction changing rollers and dependent on the measured gap.
