The invention relates to reading and display device 1 comprising an optical reading unit 2 by means of which graphic characters are optically read; and a processing unit 3, which is connected to the optical reading unit 2 and which processes character data, and a display unit 4 for displaying data. According to the invention the reading and display device 1 is a connecting unit 27a for linking the device to an external device with a duplex data transmission channel. The invention also relates to a reading and interpreting device, a reading and display unit, and an interpreting unit arranged separately for wireless communications between them. In the process according to the invention data is transmitted between the first unit, that is the reading and display unit, and the second unit, that is the interpreting unit. <IMAGE>
