An oral calcitonin preparation includes an absorption enhancer and, optionally, a protease enzyme inhibitor. The enzyme inhibitor is selected from aprotinin, potato carboxypeptidase inhibitor and chymostatin. The enhancer may be a bile acid or salt thereof, especially sodium glycocholate, sodium cholate or sodium deoxycholate. Alternatively the enhancer may be a non-ionic surfactant, preferably a polyoxyethyleneglyceroltriricinoleat derivative. The enhancer may also be a cyclodextrin or its derivatives such as a hydroxypropylbetacyclodextrin. |
