The instrument has an indicator (4), formed as a light conductor, arranged on an indicator shaft (3). The shaft is driven by an indicator drive system. The instrument also has a light source formed so as to couple light into the indicator. The light source has several LED chips (15). These are arranged in a light box (8) which at least partly surrounds the indicator. The light source also has a filler (18) for uniformly distributing the light in the light box. The light box may have an axial light decoupling surface directly opposite the light coupling surface (9) of the indicator. The filler is preferably a transparent or translucent material. The light box may emit the light parallel to the indicator shaft to a prism arranged in the indicator. The prism then deflects the light in an indicator trail.
