A channel equalizer used in an HDTV(High definition Television) is disclosed. The channel equalizer comprises a composite filter unit(10) and a composite filter coefficient renewal unit(20). The composit filter unit(10) receives an input signal(IIN) to provide I signal and Q signal, and processes a filtering of I signal, Q signal and a composite filter coefficient(CR and C1) to provide output signals(IOUT and QOUT). In the composite filter coefficient renewal unit(20), a synchronization signal(SYNC), the first output signal(IOUT) from the composite filter unit(10) and the second output signal(QOUT) from the composite filter unit(10) are inputted. And then, an error for training sequence(EF) and another error for general data(DR,EI) is calculated. And then, the composite filter coefficient(CR,CI) is calculated based on I signal, Q signal, the training sequence error(ET), and the general data error(ER,EI). Thereafter, the calculated composite filter coefficient is provided to the composite filter unit(10). Thereby, a phase error is modified by using the composite filter, and also, a channel equalization can be processed by using the general data in case that the training sequence does not exist. |
