PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for surely producing an optical fiber preform free from defects, such as crack and exfoliation. SOLUTION: This process for producing the optical fiber is executed by supplying a gaseous glass raw material, gaseous fuel and combustion assisting gas to a burner 4, ejecting glass particulates together with flames from this burner 4 to blow these particulates to the outer periphery of a rotating bar- shaped starting member 3 and relatively moving this starting member 3 and the burner 4 along the axial direction of the starting member 3 back and forth, thereby sticking and depositing the glass particulates around the starting member 3. The glass particulates are laminated on the starting member at <=0.5mm layer thickness.
