摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new styrylquinoline compound capable of having or loosing an absorption in the UV part depending on the change of the hydrogen ion concentration of a system and useful as a recording material capable of forming patterns which are detectable by UV lights, and a UV absorber. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by the formula [R<0> is a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) aryl or a (substituted) heterocyclic group; R<1> to R<4> are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl (oxycarbonyl), etc.; R<5> and R<6> are each H or an alkyl; R<7> to R<12> are each R<1> , an alkoxy, an acyloxy, an aryloxy or an amino] or its acid added salt. E.g. 2- 2-[3-(octyloxy)phenyl]ester} quinoline. The cited compound can be obtained by reacting 2-[2(3-hydroxyphenyl) ethenyl] quinoline with normal octyl bromide in the presence of potassium carbonate.
