There is provided a luminance controlling device for a color TV including an image amplifying circuit 18 for receiving a luminance control signal and sending it to an image-receiving tube, and an ABL circuit 24 for detecting the variation in current which flows from a flyback transformer 26 to the anode of the image-receiving tube 20 to restrict the beam current of the image-receiving tube 20 below a predetermined value. The luminance controlling circuit includes a level converter 28 for receiving the ABL operation signal of the ABL circuit 24 and converting its level, a logic circuit 30 for converting the output of the level converter 28 into a logic signal, and a microcomputer 10 for controlling a PWM signal generator 14 according to a luminance value set in the luminance control mode of a mode setting part 12 and the logic signal of the logic circuit 30, thereby generating the luminance control signal.
