Circuit and process for operating an EL element

The circuit (10) which supplies an electro-luminescent dial (11) includes a dc voltage source (12) connected to a voltage amplifier (13) and a discharge module (14). The dial presents two electrodes one of which is connected direct to the voltage source. The second electrode (16) is connected to the amplifier and the discharge module. The amplifier includes a bipolar transistor (18) controlled by a logical signal (V1), an inductance (19) and a diode (20). The control signal is transmitted to the transistor base via a resistor (21) in parallel with a capacitor (24). The discharge module includes a bipolar transistor, controlled by a logical signal (V2), and a current limiting resistor (17).
