Process and gas mixture for arc welding aluminium workpieces

Method is claimed for the continuous current arc welding with a refractory electrode of aluminium or aluminium alloy components using a gas mixture containing at least 50 percent, typically between 60 and 80 percent, helium, at least 300 vpm, typically between 400 and 800 vpm, nitrogen and the balance being argon. The gas mixture containing between 60 and 80 percent helium, with between 400 and 800 vpm of nitrogen and a balance of argon is also claimed.
