The auxiliary stop lamp fits inside the rear window of a motor vehicle. The stop lamp has an elongated body (10), with two fixing pads (20), one at either end of the body. The fixing pads are attached to the ends of the body by pivots, with the pads mounted at the end of curved arms (21) that pivot from the ends of the lamp body. A decorative strip (40) is attached by adhesive to the periphery of the rear window of the motor vehicle, immediately above the position to be occupied by the stop lamp. This strip masks the fixing pads from the outside of the vehicle, but does not mask the lamp.
