Automobile braking system

The braking system has a master braking cylinder (3) operated via an operating rod upon depression of the brake pedal (1). The operating rod is provided in 2 parts which collapse to fit telescopically one within the other upon an impact force above a given threshold level, to protect the drive in the case of an accident. Pref. the 2 parts of the operating rod are coupled by a releasable coupling which is released at the impact force threshold and/or upon a given relative movement between automobile components in the case of an accident, or via a setting device coupled to an impact sensor.
