Method for purifying combustion gases from an odorous gas incinerator in a sulphate cellulose pulp works, in which the combustion gases containing sulphur dioxide are purified by delivery to a combustion gas purifier, a neutralizer which reacts with the sulphur dioxide. The neutralizer used comprises an alkaline calcareous compound and the calcium compound produced in the reaction with sulphur dioxide is passed 5 from the combustion gas purifier to a system 9, 10, 11,12 for the treatment of industrial wastewater incorporated in the works. <IMAGE>
