A liquid-vapour contact column 100 comprises an outer tubular shell 112 and a plurality of trays 114, 116 and 118 supported within the tubular shell 112 to intimately contact an ascending vapour phase with the descending liquid phase. Liquid flow from tray-to-tray is via downcomers 126, 128, 131 and 152. Active portions 30, 36 and 46 are staggered so as to inhibit vapour from flowing countercurrently to the liquid flowing across the trays. <IMAGE> |
