Hydrocolloid compsn., used in wound dressings remaining coherent for longer periods - contg. CMC, binder and super-absorbent crosslinked polyacrylate

A hydrocolloid compsn. (A) contg. carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and a polymeric binder (I) additionally contains a super-absorbent hydrophilic polymer (II) of crosslinked polyacrylate type. Also claimed is a dermal wound dressing comprising a flexible carrier (1) on which an absorbent layer (2) of (A) is applied. Pref. (II) is at least partly in sodium salt form. (II) is used at 0.5-50 wt.% based on the hydrocolloid. The dressing may also include a woven fabric (4) on the side of the absorbent layer away from the carrier. Alternatively a further perforated layer (5), of hydrocolloid free of (II), may be provided on the layer of (A) on the side away from the carrier; in this case a woven fabric layer (4) may also be provided between layers (2) and (5) or on the side of layer (5) away from layer (2). A removable protective layer (3) is also provided.
