PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium good in ink absorbability and forming a high concentration picture image in good balance by an ink jet method by forming a coating layer containing a pigment, a thermally fusible resin and a highly cationic substance on base paper, and further objecting the paper to a lustering treatment. CONSTITUTION: A coating liquid containing a pigment selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, alumina hydrate and basic magnesium carbonate, a thermally fusible resin particle binder such as a ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer binder and a cathionic substance such as polyallylamine hydrochloride is coated on base paper consisting mainly of raw material pulp and a filler to dispose the primer coating. A coating layer consisting mainly of the particles of an organic resin such as a vinyl pyrrolidone-styrene copolymer is further formed on the primer-coated based paper. A coating material consisting mainly of vinyl pyrrolidone-styrene copolymer particles is further coated on the primer coating layer and subsequently calendered with heated stainless steel rolls to obtain a recording medium whose surface layer has a 75 deg.C mirror surface lustrous degree of ∞45%. The or more drops of an ink having the same color are simultaneously extruded from a recording head having two or more extrusion openings respectively for anionic group-having inks of cyan, magenta, yellow and black colors in accordance with recording signals to form a picture image on the recording medium. |
