A method of pigeon racing in which every pigeon carries a memory module with a non-erasable memory and an erasable memory, in the non-erasable memory is inscribed an association ring number identifying the pigeon and before every race a random code generated by a random generator is input into the erasable memory, the association ring number and the random code are recorded with the race committee and upon arrival of the pigeon at the pigeon loft the association ring number and random code are read off and recorded together with the arrival time, whereupon the pair of recordings are then compared with one another, and in which the random code is only generated if an authorisation code available only to the race committee has been fed to the input apparatus generating the random code, before each race a betting list is produce which comprises the authorisation code, the time of feeding in the authorisation code, and the association ring number of the individual pigeons, this betting list together with the random codes associated with the association ring numbers is filed in a safety store whence these data can only be recalled when the data recorded at the arrival of the pigeons have been detected.
