A thermally-transferred colour filter array element comprises a support with a polymeric dye image-receiving layer contg. a thermally-transferred image comprising a repeating pattern of an arylidene blue dye of formula (I), where R1 and R2 are H, 1-8C opt. substd. alkenyl gp; or 7-14C opt. substd. aralkyl gp.; R3 is H, 1-8C opt. substd. alkyl or alkoxy gp., halogen or fused aryl ring; or R2 and R3 may together form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; X is H, F, Cl, or Br; and n = 1-4. A process for forming a colour filter array elements also claimed, comprising (a) imagewise heating a dye-donor element of a support with a dye layer, and (b) transferring portions of the dye layer to a dye-receiving element comprising a support with a dye-receiving layer. The imagewise heating is carried out so as to produce a repeating pattern of colourants, one being the arylident blue dye of formula (I).
