<p>A mask (1) for protecting the respiratory system of the wearer comprises a full face mask of a foam material having curved eye pieces (9a, 9b) or a visor, and integral wide bands (5a, 5b) which are wrapped around the wearer's head. The bands (5a, 5b) have respective hook and loop fastening pads (7a, 7b) which are overlapped and fastened together to secure the mask to the wearer's head. The mask (1) includes a face seal (11) to provide a tight seal between the mask and the wearer's face. One way exhalation valves (17a, 17b) are located in the nose and mouth area of the mask, to allow the exhalation of breathed air from the interior of the mask (1) into the environment. The mask (1) includes a filter assembly (19) extending along at least one side of the mask, which provides a passage for air from the environment to the interior of the mask (1). The filter assembly (19), in use, houses a filter (27) which removes particulates and toxins from air drawn through it in response to inhalations of the wearer.</p> |
