A parietal prosthesis, with the strength of a biologically well tolerated, non-resorbent, open weave (2) with locked meshes (3) and having a texture which confers a resistance to stretch in two directions running at right angles to each other, has component threads (7) which comprise at least in part many fine threads. Each mesh has an area in the range 1 to 70 mm<2> and the weight per unit area of the open weave is less than 90 g/m<2>. Pref. the mesh area is between 10 and 50, pref. about 10 mm<2>. The weight per unit area of the open weave is less than or equal to 60 g/m<2> and the ratio of the full, visible area of the threads (4, 5) forming the open weave to the open mesh area is less than 0.5, pref, less than 0.4, most pref. about 0.32. The size of the longitudinally drawn component threads is at least 50 dtex. |
