The compact powder detergent compsn. for washing clothes contains (apart from surfactants); (A) at least one hydrated zeolite of formula (I); (B) co-granules contg. an alkali metal carbonate and an alkali metal silicate of formula (II), in which the wt. ratio (as dry materials) of silicate/carbonate is 5/95-45/55 (pref. 15/85-35/65) and the wt. ratio of residual water associated with the silicate/dry silicate is at least 33/100 (pref. 40-120/100): (C) at least one anti-incrustation agent consisting of a water-soluble salt of a maleic acid (or anhydride)/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer of mol.wt. 20,000-70,000, contg. 40-90 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid units and 60-10 wt.% maleic acid (or anhydride) units; (D) at least one crystal growth inhibitor selected from organic phosphonates and aminopolyalkylene phosphonates; and opt. (E) at least one sequestrant selected from aliphatic or aromatic polycarboxylic acids and their water-soluble salts, water-soluble salts of polyacetic acids and N,N-bis-carboxymethyl-2-amino-pentanedioic acid and its water-soluble salts. xNa2O.yA2O3.zSiO2.wH2O (I) nSiO2.M2O(II) if y = 1, x = 0.7-1.1, z = 1.3-3.3. and w = 10-264; M = alkali metal; n = 1.6-2.4. (A) and (B) together form a surfactant washing performance improving (.e. builder) system; and (C) and (D) together form an anti-incrustation system. (A)-(D) together form 30-70 wt.% of the detergent formulation. Amts. of each component, all by wt. based on (A)-(D), are 20-60 (pref. 30-50%) of each of (A) and (B), 5-20 (pref. 8-15%) (C) and 0.4-1.5 (pref. 0.5-1)% (D). Also claimed is the use of the above formulation for the prepn. of a clothes washing liquor medium contg. 2-6 (pref. 3-5g) of the formulation per litre of medium. |
