PURPOSE: To predict a character string following a KANA(Japanese syllabary) - KANJI(Chinese character) mixed character string which are inputted for the 1st time by narrowing down character strings. CONSTITUTION: A dictionary retrieval part 3 performs retrieval from a word dictionary 4 by using the number of characters, obtained by adding the number αof added characters to the number (n) of characters in a character string inputted from an input part 1 to an input buffer 2, as the upper-limit value of the number of characters of a predicted character string candidate. Namely, the dictionary retrieval part 3 retrieves a character string, which has the character string as the head part among word consisting of HIRAGANA(cursive form of Japanese syllabary), KANJI or KANJI-mixed HIRAGANA has the total number (n+α) of characters as the upper-limit value, as the predicted character string candidate. Therefore, only predicted character string candidates which consists of (n)-(n+α) characters in total are limited and retrieved, and those predicted character strings are displayed at a display part 6 by a character string output part 5. |
