PURPOSE: To provide a multiple electron beam source and its driving method in which the strength of electron beams to be outputted is correct and which is provided with cold cathode elements wired in a matrix and a picture display device in which the deviation of display luminance is prevented. CONSTITUTION: In an electron beam generating device provided with plural cold cathode elements 201 arranged in matrix on a substrate, (m) lines of row wirings and (n) lines of column wirings with which plural cold cathode elements are wired in a matrix and a driving signal generating part generating signal for driving plural cathode elements and outputting electron beams in accordance with electron beam requiring values to be inputted from the outside simultaneously with one column, the driving signal generating part has a statistical quantity arithmetic part 206 performing statistical operations of electron beam requiring values, a correction value generating part 207 generating a correction value based on the arithmetic operation result of the statistical quantity arithmetic part 206, a synthesis part synthesizing electron beam requiring values and the correction value and driving parts 209, 202 driving cold cathode elements wired in the matrix based on output values of the synthesis part.
