PURPOSE: To prevent defective recording caused by shortage of an ink during printing by providing a remaining quantity detection and control means which detects a remaining quantity of the ink in an ink housing member, determines whether or not a predetermined quantity can be recorded based on the detected result, and differentiates timings for determination and predetermined quantities dependent on type of a record medium. CONSTITUTION: The number of recordable dots in a new record head is previously stored in a ROM 3103. A difference between the number of recordable dots and the number of cumulative record dots of a monochrome record head and a color record head being used currently is sent to a host device 300 as an item of state information 321 of a record device. Its value is stored in a RAM 3004 and displayed on a display device 3007. A type of a recording paper is transferred to a recording device 310 as an item of recording information 320 from the host device 300. A remaining quantity of ink is compared with a quantity of ink for one page of the recording paper. When the total number of recording dots exceeds the number of recordable dots, recording operation is stopped and it is informed by an information means such as the display device and voices. |
