PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst to be used for the polymerization of propylene, being highly active and nonproblematic in the deposition of polymer scales on the inside wall of the polymerizer by impregnating a microparticulate support with a specified group IVB transition metal compound and an organoaluminumoxy compound. CONSTITUTION: A microparticulate support is impregnated with a group IVB transition metal compound represented by the formula [e.g. rac-dimethylsilylene- bis(2,3,5-trimethylcyclopentadienyl)-zirconium dichloride] and an organoaluminumoxy compound having an alkyl/aluminum molar ratio of 1.8 or below (e.g. modified methyl-aluminosiloxane) to obtain a catalyst for the polymerization of propylene. In the formula M<1> is any one of the transition metals of groups IV to VIB in the periodic table; R<1> , R<2> , R<3> and R<4> are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a halohydrocarbon group, H, a halogen or the like; X<1> and X<2> are each a hydrocarbon group, a halohydrocarbon group, an oxygenous group or the like; and Y<1> is a bivalent hydrocarbon group, a bivalent halohydrocarbon group, a bivalent silicon-containing group, a bivalent germanium-containing group, -O- or the like. |
