Applying sealing material on surface

Applying a sealing layer (2') onto a surface (1) comprises the following steps: (a) a bitumen polymer-based prod. (11) with an elastic extension value above 5% is applied onto the surface as a non-reinforced web (10) that has at least one side which is not tacky when cold, this web being applied so that the side opposite to that in contact with the surface is the non-tacky layer; and (b) the sealing layer is welded onto the web. The use of the bituminous prods. prepd. in step (a) as underlays for sealing layers is also claimed. Pref. the webs have one surface which is tacky when cold and one surface which is not. The bituminous prod. comprises a bitumen (mixt.) contg. at least one polymer chosen from atactic polypropylene, polybutene, polyolefin copolymers, SBS copolymers, EVA copolymers, isobutylene (sic) or isoprene, pref. a bitumen elastomer.
