The trimmer involves a first splitting element (28) which has a splitting axis (30). A positioning mechanism (24) is provided, connected operationally wit the first splitting element, and which facilitates a straight line to the splitting element, in order to adjust the position of the splitting element selectively along the splitting axis, relative to the working surface (19). A hydraulic mechanism (26) produces a splitting force, and it is connected operationally with the first splitting element, in order to transmit the splitting force on the splitting element. So that the splitting force is exerted on the stone sample (12) by th splitting element. This exerted force is directed downwards on the working surface, and essentially along the splitting axis.
