Stackable storage and handling unit for food, e.g. for drying hams, consists of a container with outer walls (1) and a base with guide channels (4) for the removal of exuding liquids and for aerating the foodstuffs. The channels lead to troughs (6) along the sides of the container, which has ridges (5) on its base to hold the drying articles in set positions. The base of the container has two surfaces (2a,2b) which slope at a shallow angle away from a centre line (3) and have the side troughs situated just below their lower ends. In a variant of the design the base can have a single sloping surface with guide channels connected to one trough at its lower end. The container is made e.g. from plastic or stainless steel.
