PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To aim at improvement of discharge performance of a photochemical battery with photolytic reaction of metal halide. SOLUTION: A transparent electrode (a cathode) 2, a photosensitive electrode (an anode) 4 made of metal halide and electrolyte solution 6 are provided in a housing case 8. The electrolyte solution 6 is set at either above pH 7.0 and below 15.0, or within the range of pH 4.5 to 7.0 with mixture of buffer solution. By setting the electrolyte solution at such a pH value, halogen generated by photolysis of metal halide can exist as ion in the electrolyte solution in a stable state. Ionization of halogen is accelerated and battery reaction quantity at discharge is increased. |
