<p>PURPOSE: To obtain an easy-to-handle VTR for writing/reading a digital signal while keeping compatibility with an analog VTR by providing a function for automatically determining the analog/digital mode and an automatic tracking control function. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic recorder/player comprises first pair of magnetic heads 6a, 6b for writing an analog image signal on an image track and reading the image signal therefrom, and a second pair of magnetic heads 5a, 5b for reading/writing an analog voice signal at a deep layer part of the image track and also reading out a digital signal. Since the second pair of magnetic heads 5a, 5b read out any one signal at all times, analog/digital mode can be determined by detecting the frequency on the output side of the second head. Furthermore, the mode determination performance can be enhanced by determining the phase locked state by means of a PLL circuit 18 at the time of digital signal processing. Disturbance of image and sound quality can be reduced significantly in a monitor television through the combination of stabilized determination of mode and automatic tracking operation.</p> |
