PURPOSE: To provide a fuel cell system and its starting method in which the temperature of a converter can be raised within a short time at starting without using a heater for raising the temperature of the converter. CONSTITUTION: At the starting of a fuel cell system, the temperature of a fuel cell 5 is raised by the heat generated by a startup burner 7, and a steam generator 8 also generates steam by the heat of the startup burner 7. The generated steam is supplied to a coil tube 46 through a piping 64, a steam separator 10, and a piping 62, whereby the temperature of a converter 4 is raised. The temperature of a reformer 3 is also raised by the heat of a reformer burner 30, and the high temperature reformed gas from the reformer 3 is sent to the converter 4, whereby the converter 4 is heated from the inner part, and its temperature is raised. The gas sent out from the converter 4 is supplied as a fuel to the reformer burner 30 through a piping 59. |
