PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of a failure such as a miscopy by automatically deciding a cartridge to be in a developing position, for automatically detecting the fact that the cartride not to be in an exchange position is therein as soon as possible, in a rotary developing device. CONSTITUTION: In this image forming device constituted in such a manner that the rotary developing device having plural toner cartidges 23 which house the toner are annularly arrayed around a fitting part is arranged in the vicinity of a latent image carrier and rotated around the fitting part, to displace the arbitrary toner cartridge 23 to a developing position facing the latent image carrier and attain development and each toner cartridge 23 is freely attachably/ detachably arranged in the fitting part, at least, a part of the case of the cartridge 23 is made of a light transmissible material and a control part discriminating whether an abnormal operation in a cartridge switching operation in printing sequence is present or not, based on the color detected by a cartridge color detecting means 24 detecting the color of the toner housed in the cartridge 23 is provided. |
