Appts. for anticipation of skin bursts during strip casting

The appts. for anticipation of possible skin burst in the strip being cast incorporates a mould provided with temperature sensors (1) arranged at two levels (2, 3) around the strip. The sensors are followed by individual memory devices (4) and evaluation units (5) which issue their results at different outputs, and deliver them to fuzzy logic units (7). The output from each of these units corresponds to the probability of a skin burst in the strip in the region (8) associated with that particulate unit. The overall probability of a skin burst is given by the value (A) issued by the logic circuit (13) receiving its input from the fuzzy logic units (7).
