<p>The invention concerns a proposed method of determining a vehicle's position, involving the transfer of data by the vehicle, located within a limited radius, to a beacon. Data transfer to at least two or three beacons facilitates correlation of data transmission and vehicle position within a communication zone. Data transmission signals emitted from the vehicle and received at the beacons are used to determine the speed of the vehicle at a given time relative to the beacons. The lane or position of the data-transmitting vehicle is determined from the speed ratio or a number of speed ratios. A preferred application is in recording toll charges or verifying a vehicle's authorisation to use a stretch of road.</p> |
