Coated optical plastic lens

An optical lens, with a transparent plastics substrate (1) and a directly adjacent first layer (2) of SiO, has (a) a second layer (3) of borosilicate glass with a refractive index of 1.47 (lambda 550 nm) and a thickness of up to 3 microns; and (b) third to seventh layers of TiO2, SiO2 and Al2O3 for antireflection purposes. Also claimed are (i) an appts. with a chamber, in which a plasma can be generated, for producing a thin film; (ii) a process for depositing thin films on a plastic substrate; (iii) prodn. of a layer with non-uniform hardness by varying the parameters of a plasma coating unit; and (iv) prodn. of antireflection layers by plasma assistance.
