Variable drive transmission for 4-wheel drive vehicle

The drive transmission has a drive shaft (42) coupled to the coaxial engine shaft at one end, the opposite end supported by a radial bearing (46) and coupled to a second parallel drive shaft (54) via an endless drive chain (72). A friction clutch is provided between the first drive shaft and the endless drive chain, with a variable clutch slip, for varying the transmitted drive force. A reaction force device exerts a displacement force on the first drive shaft which is transferred to the bearing upon operation of the clutch, e.g. via an annular component fitted in an annular slot around the outside of the first drive shaft acting on the upper surface of the bearing.
