Determining position of adjusting unit in motor vehicle

The position determination involves a position value which is allocated to a limiting stop in a specified operating phase. The position of the adjusting unit (14) is determined on the basis of the determined position value and the position signal value, transmitted from the position sensor or transmitter (16). A measurement for the temp of the sensor is determined using a temp. sensor (32), and with the determining of the position of the adjusting unit, this temp. measurement is taken account of. The desired setting range of the adjusting unit is defined by two end stops, and the two stops are allocated positional values.
