A method of running a wireline to a steering tool coupled with a downhole mud motor. Firstly, secure a drill string from a swivel suspended from a draw works of an oil rig such that the drill string is rotatable. The swivel has an axial passage with a first end in alignment with an interior bore of the drill string and a second end. Secondly, secure to the second end of the axial passage of the swivel a hose communicating with surface mud pumps thereby permitting drilling mud to be pumped through the hose to the axial passage of the swivel and down the interior bore of the drill string. The hose is connected to the swivel with a connector having a primary passage through which mud from the hose passes and a secondary passage which is substantially aligned with the axial passage of the swivel. Thirdly, secure a sheave to the swivel above and adjacent to the axial passage, such that a wireline passing over the sheave is substantially in axial alignment with the axial passage. Fourthly, extend a wireline over the sheave, through the secondary passage of the connector, through the axial passage of the swivel, and down the drill string to a steering tool coupled with a mud motor positioned downhole.
