The present invention concerns D-xylofuranose derivatives of formula (VIa), wherein R3 means an hydroxy protecting group, R4 means an alkyl group with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R5 means hydrogen, a halogen atom, an azide, a cyanide, a thiocyanate, an alkoxy group, an optionally substituted aryloxy group, an optionally substituted arylalkoxy group, an optionally substituted aroyl group, a straight-chain or branched optionally substituted alkanoyl group, and Z means a 1-imidazolyl group, the group -CXxH3-x (in which X is a halogen atom and x = 1 to 3) or fluorine. The invention further concerns a method of preparing these derivatives, novel intermediate compounds which are developed or used during this method, and the use of these derivatives for preparing 3-substituted 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-pentofuranose derivatives.
