PURPOSE:To obtain an optical anisotropic film containing a liquid crystal oligo mer compsn. or liquid crystal oligomer compsn. polymer which gives a wide angle of visual field and to obtain an industrially advantageous method for the production of this film by forming the film in such a manner that the optical axis of the film is almost parallel to the normal direction of the film and selecting a specified straight-chain or cyclic liquid crystal oligomer compd. CONSTITUTION:The optical axis of the film is almost parallel to the normal direction of the film. The liquid crystal oligomer used is selected from among straight-chain or cyclic liquid crystal oligomer compds. having repeating units expressed by formula I and formula II as the main structural unit. The numbers n, n' of the repeating units expressed by formula I and formula II in one molecule of the oligomer compd., respectively, are integers satisfying 0<=n<=20 and 1<=n'<=200 and 4<=n+n'<=21. In formulae, R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen or 1-6C alkyl group or phenyl group, K and K' are integers 2 to 10, m, m' are 0 or 1, and Ar1 to Ar4 are 1,4-phenylene groups or the like. |
