The apparatus and method controls the duty ratio of the bulb in order to increase the life of the automobile bulb and gradually increases the duty ratio from 0% to 100%. The control apparatus comprises a rectification circuit(1) including a switch(S), a Zenor diode(ZD), a resistor(R) and a condenser(C); a microprocessor(2) gradually increasing the duty ratio if the switch gets on and gradually decreasing the ratio if the switch gets off; an inverter(3) inversing the output wave shape from the microprocessor(2); an npn-type bipolar transistor(4) controlled by the output of the inverter(3); an n-channel MOSFET(5) turning on if the transistor(4) turn off, and vice versa.
