<p>An air-driven fuel atomising and vaporising system is described for an internal combustion spark ignition engine. The system comprises an intake manifold having a plenum chamber (24) common to a plurality of engine cylinders and intake tracts (34) leading from the plenum chamber (24) to the intake ports of the respective cylinders. At least one ejector assembly (10) is mounted in the plenum chamber for introducing atomised fuel into the plenum chamber, the ejector assembly (10) including a gas nozzle (12), an entrainment section (14) and a discharge section (16). Gas is supplied under pressure to the gas nozzle (12), fuel is introduced in metered quantities directly or indirectly into the entrainment section (14) of the ejector and a heated fuel conduit (18) acts to heat and recirculate fuel from the lowest point in the plenum chamber (24) to the entrainment section (14) of the ejector (10).</p> |
