APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING QUARTZ GLASS ARTICLE

PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a molding having a projection by arranging a quartz glass body between a female mold and receiving base made of porous graphite and subjecting this body to press forming at a high temp. in a molding flask made of compact graphite by a specific method. CONSTITUTION:The female mold made of the porous graphite corresponding to the projection iis arranged on a back surface side and the receiving base made of the porous graphite on an upper surface side so as to sandwich the quartz glass body in the forming space having a graphite flask 7 formed of the deuse graphite material at the circumference. The receiving base is fixed and supported on the upper surface side by a fixing press rod 19 and the molding flask 7 forming is placed on a work table 3a. The quartz glass body is heated to a high temp. by a graphite heater 2 and a hydraulic cylinder 5 is actuated to rise a work table 3a into a furnace from a lower position outside the furnace via a movable press rod 3. The quartz glass body is thus press formed under high-temp. heating and the quartz glass articles having the projection on the plane side are produced.
